2014: Year in Review

2014 was a great year for RIC design build. In 2014 we worked on 34 homes and projects!

In addition to working on dozens of projects, we redesigned and rebuilt our own branding and website to showcase more of the work we’ve done. This blog is a part of that process and we’re excited to use it to show you projects we’re working on, products we love and trends in sustainable design and building.

But before we embark on this new year, we wanted to take a look back at many of the projects we were honored to work on this past year. A special thanks to our clients for entrusting us with the job of improving their homes. We never take that trust for granted and take special care and consideration with every project we approach. Cheers to a new year!

We designed and renovated six kitchens, including three homes that had incurred water damage from leaky or burst pipes. Not only did we make these kitchens more functional and beautiful, but we restored the structural integrity and sustainability of the spaces.

We designed and remodeled four bathrooms, from complete guts to simple builder-grade facelifts. No matter how drastic your bathroom remodel is, they all add value to your home.

We renovated or added porches to four homes, and put together the designs for two others that make these outdoor spaces more functional and inviting.

For several clients, we updated the exterior of their homes and made them more energy efficient through new siding and windows. These improvements look good, save you money in the long run and are eco-friendly. Win-win-win.

We stayed extremely busy this year with outbuildings such as workshops and studios. Whether these structures house a business, a hobby or simply serve as additional storage, we took time to design and construct them in a way that worked seamlessly with the existing home, landscape and lot. A studio we worked on in Malvern Gardens was constructed with modern, high performance materials such as Huber Woods’ ZIP System, which cuts down on air leakage, and ventilated siding that allows better draining and drying.

Additions and whole house remodels were big this year. We designed, built or did feasibility studies for over half a dozen additions from the West End and the Fan to Byrd Park and the Northside.

Finally, we had the opportunity to work with some investors on remodeling homes for resale. The home we remodeled in Carytown sold for full price after just one day on the market. The second investment home we remodeled and added on to was in Malvern Gardens and it sold at full price in just under a week. These are great examples of the value a remodel or addition can add to your home.

Every project we’ve worked on this year is more than just a set of plans and a timeline. Every one of these pictures represents a family or individual that we’ve taken the time to get to know, and to create something that makes their lives better, more functional, and easier to enjoy. If you’re considering a remodel, renovation, addition or even a small custom project for your home this year, please contact us. We’d love to help make your 2015 as great as these folks’ 2014.
